The Desert is finishing up production. supplies are starting to build in Santa Maria and Salinas. We do not see a transition gap and markets should remain steady during this time.
Steady supplies from Florida expected to decrease. Prices are lower. Quality is generally good.
The carrot market continues steadily into the Easter holiday. Growers are seeing better supplies of Jumbo and cello size which has stabilized the market. Demand for snack carrots though still is strong with recommended advance ordering it’s still the way to go. Shippers appear to have caught up with most of the baby demand and improving supplies should continue.
Cauliflower demand is about steady. Quality & condition has been good. Cauliflower in Salinas, Santa Maria & Yuma now. Markets are steady. There should be deals on 9s & 16s through next week.
Market steady great quality. Transition to Oxnard has not affected Celery supplies as much as other row crops this month. Expect the market to remain steady through the end of the month.
Market steady/Green onions are now in summer plantings which means fewer volumes as local deals kick off regionally. Fair quality as Mexico heats up.
While most of the leaf items will finish next week, GREEN leaf lettuce will extend another week. Still looks like Salinas harvest will commence April 5th.
Transition time is upon us. It is time to make our yearly trek North. We are in the last 7-10 days of Iceberg Lettuce harvest out of the desert. Huron is in full production, Santa Maria is a week away from harvest, and Salinas starting the first of the month, we should not see any transition gap. This will keep the lettuce market stable with no spikes.
The end of the Leaf season is about finished. Red leaf out of the desert will finish next week. Growers are currently harvesting out of the Huron area. Salinas starts April 5th.
Most of the leaf shippers are trying to get out of the Desert, it looks like the ROMAINE supplies will continue and another week. So by next week, we will have supplies out of Yuma, Santa Maria, Huron, and maybe Salinas.
