Cucumber prices and supply are steady this week. Quality has been nice. Product is crossing through Nogales. Light supplies out of Florida from Central America expected to remain about the same. PNW Onions: Demand has increased slightly along with a gentle firming of the FOBs. Due in large to the possibility of lighter yield from Mexico and New Mexico. With the storm system that swept North America last week, New Crop supplies crossing from Mexico were hit by the rain. Damage reports are still incomplete but estimates are that losses could be in the 30% range. Be wary of “good deals” as quality may be affected. Shipments continue to cross with fair prices relative to this overall weak onion market. White prices have dropped a bit in the PNW as new crop crosses from Mexico along with Red and yellow supplies. PNW Yellow sweets are available as well as red and yellow Organic onions. The overall quality and condition remain excellent on these storage onions.
Mt Vernon: Good availability on all colors this season. However the Whites supplies are in few hands- basically finished for the season. Mt Vernon district will have Yellow and Reds well into spring. Along with Fingerlings and purple potatoes. Organics are available. Eastern WA continues with a small supply of Red & Yellow potatoes to go perfectly with your russet and onions orders. Quality is good. ORGANIC-colored spuds are available as well.
PNW potatoes: Good supplies of large spuds in WA/OR districts. Relatively speaking, prices have been strong on those sizes, while Idaho struggles to hold prices up on the big end. Chains are pulling bulk display potatoes that look nice from up north. Idaho continues to struggle with size this season thus has great supplies on the small end. This is where the bulk of the USDA food box program has been awarded. Prices are weaker on 90’s and smaller sizes in Idaho. Quality remains outstanding. Organic Russets are available.
Steady supplies from North Carolina. We can expect good supplies from Mississippi and Louisiana. Prices are unchanged. Quality is good overall.
Zucchini – There are good supplies of zucchini available, prices are down. Quality has been decent. Moderate supplies from Florida expected to decrease slightly. Prices are much lower. Quality is variable.
Yellow Squash – Yellow squash is up this week supplies are a little tighter, quality has been good. Product is crossing through Nogales. Moderate supplies from Florida expected to decrease slightly. Prices are much higher. Quality is generally good.
The East: Florida supplies are rebounding due to better weather and yields are increasing rapidly. Quality is good.
The West: Supply levels are increasing and supply is sufficient for current demand.
The East: Florida is seeing better supply and quality is good.
The West: Mexico is currently the largest producing region on romas with great volume and the expectation is this should continue for this month and into next.
The East: Volume for the rest of the month is expected to be the same or possibly higher, sizing maybe a mix of smaller and larger sizes.
The West: Western Mexico is building volumes and should have strong steady numbers through the rest of the month and into next. VR’s are on the larger size. Overall all quality is good.
