NW Onions Demand is light on diminishing prices as growers push to move volume. East coast Repackers are pulling a bit earlier this year as East coast supplies are light. This has the potential to bolster prices of course. The onion FOB’s are notably lower this week in most districts-especially Mediums which to date have enjoyed relatively higher FOBs because of the USDA box program. Now is a good time to push onions. Look for yellow Medium prices and demand to increase drastically before the end of January as the USDA food box program makes another round to feed the people. All colors of Organic Onions are available.

Colored Potatoes

Mt Vernon: Good availability on all colors this season. A good supply of Fingerlings. Whites are beginning to dry up. California has Whites although many reports are they are not as appealing as the beautiful Mt Vernon whites that spoil the eyes. Yellow and Reds will be available well into spring. Organics are available. Eastern WA continues with a small supply of Red & Yellow potatoes to go perfectly with your russet and onions orders. Quality is good. ORGANIC colored spuds are available as well.

Russet Potatoes

Russet Potatoes

The market has been somewhat steady on a weak market. Small potatoes are in good supply and deals abound. However, this may turn around once USDA Food Box packages are awarded this week. Until then enjoy the great deals. Great time to promote consumer packs while ample supplies and attractive prices remain. Quality remains outstanding. Organic Russets are available- at lower fob’s as well.

The East: Florida’s volume is still light, current cool temperatures are the culprit. We are still dealing with cool temps and need warmth to assist supply.

The West: Like the East, cool temps in Mexico are hampering production, we expect to have this turn around in the next week.

Roma Tomatoes

The East: We are still dealing with lighter yields, however, the expectation is this will improve in the coming weeks.

The West:  More growers are coming online, improving supply, we should begin to see normal supply levels over the next few weeks.

Round Tomatoes

The East:  Rain and cooler temps are still affecting production, in hopes of warmer weather so we can get to a normal supply albeit it will be light overall.

The West: More growers are coming online; we are in hopes minus weather events that supply should be back to normal in 10 days.
