PNW Onions: Demand continues to be light on a weak Jumbo yellow market. Jumbo prices are down again this week while medium Yellow and red jumbo and mediums onions are enjoying higher demand with an increase in prices. The USDA box program can take credit for that as it adds demand to those sizes. Now is a good time to push Jumbo onions for your bulk displays. White prices are slipping a bit. Yellow sweets are available as well market steady. The overall quality and condition are excellent on these storage onions. All colors of Organic Onions are available, including sweets. Mexico-Movement is expected to increase as more shippers receive onion supplies. Trading Moderate. Prices Yellow jumbo and White medium lower, White jumbo higher, others unchanged.
Mt Vernon: Good availability on all colors this season. However, the White supplies are nearly exhausted for the season. Mt Vernon district will have Yellow and Reds well into spring. Organics are available. Eastern WA continues with a small supply of Red & Yellow potatoes to go perfectly with your russet and onions orders. Quality is good. ORGANIC colored spuds are available as well.
PNW potatoes: Prices remain steady on the big side and lower on the small side. There are good supplies of large spuds in WA/OR and these growers are holding the line as quality and appearance is good. Chains are pulling bulk display potatoes that look nice. Idaho continues to struggle with size this season and has great supplies on the small end. Prices are weaker in 90’s and smaller sizes in general. The industry has got to be thankful for the USDA Food Box packages that are helping to keep potatoes moving and feeding the masses at the same time. Quality remains outstanding. Zucchini – There are good supplies of zucchini available, prices are down. Quality has been nice. Moderate supplies from Florida. Prices are much lower. Quality is generally good.
Yellow Squash – Yellow squash is up this week supplies are a little tighter. Product is crossing through Nogales. Moderate supplies from Florida expected to remain about the same. Prices are much lower. Quality is generally good.
The East: Florida supplies are rebounding due to better weather and yields are increasing rapidly. Quality is good.
The West: Supply levels are increasing and supply is sufficient for current demand.
The East: Florida is seeing better supply and quality is good.
The West: Mexico is currently the largest producing region on romas with great volume and the expectation is this should continue for this month and into next.
The East: Volume for the rest of the month is expected to be the same or possibly higher, sizing maybe a mix of smaller and larger sizes.
The West: Western Mexico is building volumes and should have strong steady numbers through the rest of the month and into next. VR’s are on the larger size. Overall all quality is good.
